RSA Electronics was founded in Tehran in 2002 by young innovative engineers, in order to introduce effective and economic solutions for national challenges and issues. The company has been continuously and persistently developing since, and broadening its scope of activities to include consultancy, engineering, manufacturing and production of meters, as well as product deployment and maintenance. These activities are chiefly based on the technology of digital electronic meters, which was developed by the RSA Electronics R&D team that added many novel features to the conventional digital meter and patented some of those features in national and international patent registries.

The phenomenal product of RSA Electronics is the Intelligent Energy and Water Meter (IEWM), which delivers the ultimate capabilities of both energy as well as water meters in a single package. IEWM is not only an elite product for the Iranian market but also potentially an exclusive product for the international markets as well. RSA Electronics is broadening its export horizon in the near future, and would like to invite all interested companies for cooperation in this regard.

The idea of IEWM emerged as a result of a substantial need for a measuring and controlling device for groundwater resources management. The sporadic nature of water wells in Iran, as well as the constraining harsh operational conditions that water wells impose to their measuring equipment overly complicates the issues regarding groundwater resources management. From one point of view, an elaborate, industrial, robust, resistant to harsh conditions (such as deserts), as well as anti-tampering measuring and controlling device is needed, and on the other hand an uncomplicated, maintenance-free, and economical solution is required.

IEWM is a brilliant solution to the above contradictions. It is easy to install, operate, and maintain, and at the same time extremely robust and accurate. The prices can compete with those of a typical modern three-phase digital energy meter.

The design of IEWM was finalized in 2002 after almost five years of research and development. It was patented by the Iranian patent registry and received national recognition particularly in the water resources and electrical energy industries.

Immediately after the official announcement, IEWM received several requests for purchase, and although RSA Electronics was just a research group at that time, it was compelled to develop the design into semi-industrial as well as industrial versions and ultimately to initiate mass production.

RSA Electronics has come a long way in a short time. The semi-industrial version of IWEM was developed by 2005 and subsequently received all necessary technical and commercial licenses and permissions.

The production line was established in 2006, and the first product certification was received in the beginning of 2007.

Presently, RSA Electronics is the sole manufacturer of Intelligent Energy and Water Meters in the world and the pioneer and leader of digital electronic metering technology in Iran.

All Regional Water Companies in Iran, which are responsible for water resources management throughout the country, (about 30 regional companies) are the major, but intermediate customers of RSA Electronics (The major end consumers are water well owners and growers in particular).
